Send a message to a Birding Pal

You don't need to be an expert birder to contact a Pal. However these are serious birdwatchers who are willing to help. It is a privilege to contact them. Your message should reflect decent respect.

A Birding Pal does not charge a fee, however you should pay for their expenses, transportation costs, entrance fees, meals, etc.

Pals will answer your messages quickly, if they can. You might write to someone who is traveling, so write to more than one Pal, and be patient. Let us know if someone doesn't answer and we'll check that everything is okay.

Let us know when you are going to meet a Pal, and then let us know how it went.

Happy birding.

I live in Cape Girardeau Missouri. This is within 20 miles of Horseshoe Lake Conservation Area and Union County Conservation Area in Illinois, and within 50 miles of Mingo National Wildlife Refuge, Duck Creek Conservation Area, Otter Slough Conservation Area, and Ten Mile Pond Conservation Area in Missouri. I am very familiar with all of these areas, as well as hotspots in town during spring migration. I am a former professional ornithologist (now university administrator) who intends to devote more time to birding in the future. If people have target species they might wish to find within 50 miles, I can give them pointers or ideas, or lead them there on many weekends with advance notice.
